A selection of short films inspired by this year’s edition of Personal Structures – Beyond Boundaries will showcase works by renowned artists Micky Hoogendijk, Gabriel Schmitz, and Richard Wearn. Their films provoke critical reflections on existence, choices, and the legacies we create, highlighting the rich tapestry of diverse perspectives and expressions of identity.

In an era where environmental concerns are paramount, filmmakers Bibi Smit, Virginia Bradley, Rachael Mellors, Concept 2048, and Klaus Littman bring to light nature’s beauty and the necessity of conservation. Their works serve as a reminder of our intrinsic connection to the natural world and the profound impact our actions can have on its fragile equilibrium.

Moreover, a selection of films from the New Media Festival will engage viewers at the intersection of humanity and technology, unraveling artificial intelligence’s complexities. Through compelling narratives, these films examine AI’s societal implications and envision a future molded by innovation, sparking crucial conversations about our evolving relationship with technology.

Expanding the dialogue around identity, race, gender, colonialism, and class, the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Art and Design will showcase the impactful works of Shanti Thakur, Vashti Anderson, and Christine A. Banna. By challenging conventional norms, these artists provide profound insights into personal narratives and collective experiences, inviting the audience to reconsider identity, history, and societal constructs.

The event will also feature insightful discussions following the screenings, allowing attendees to engage with experts and fellow enthusiasts.
