On Friday, August 14, 2026, the CROSSCUT (Beyond the Centre) exhibition opens at Konstepidemin Gallery in Gothenburg, bringing together segments of the artistic scenes in Gothenburg and Novi Sad. The title is borrowed from film terminology, referring to a technique of parallel editing that creates connections between different perspectives, spaces, and narratives. In this spirit, CROSSCUT connects two cities that, as cultural centres outside national capitals, often remain outside dominant institutional and media narratives.

The exhibition does not aim to offer a representative overview of the Gothenburg and Novi Sad art scenes. Instead, it functions as a platform for different generations, artistic practices, and disciplines, bringing together artists whose work spans visual and multimedia art, literature, theory, and hybrid forms.

Starting from the traditional opposition between centre and periphery, CROSSCUT questions established regimes of visibility and creates space for positions that exist outside dominant currents. Rather than reinforcing the division between centre and periphery, the exhibition establishes a network of connections, exchanges, and shared visibility emerging through encounters and artistic collaboration.

The exhibition is therefore not simply a meeting of two artistic scenes, but a space for developing new forms of collaboration, exchange, and shared reflection.

The exhibition features the following artists: Jasna Gulan Ružić, Maja Erdeljanin, Ljiljana Maletin Vojvodić, and Dragan Vojvodić from Novi Sad, and Lars Åsling, Gülbin Kulbay, Elizabeth Sercombe, and Petter Yxell from Gothenburg.
