If you’ve been following the Art Box portal, you’ve probably heard of Way Out West, a three-day music and film festival taking place from August 7 to 9 in Slottsskogen Park, Gothenburg.

This iconic Swedish festival is renowned for its top-tier music and film program, unique atmosphere on the main stages, and performances in clubs across the city.
Since its inception in 2007, Way Out West has hosted a diverse range of global stars, including Prince, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine, Neil Young, M.I.A., Alicia Keys, Stormzy, Frank Ocean, Robyn, The xx, Patti Smith, Solange, The Cure, and many others.
The 2025 lineup features performances by artists such as Charli XCX, Queens of the Stone Age, Chappell Roan, Khruangbin, Iggy Pop, Little Simz, Fontaines D.C., Noname, Wet Leg, Bicep, and more. Notably, the Northern Irish group Kneecap, which faces increasing pressure due to its outspoken support for Palestine, will also perform in Gothenburg.

After the festival gates close, the celebration continues through Stay Out West, with events in city clubs and venues around Gothenburg.

Among this year’s film highlights is the Swedish premiere of „Sentimental Value,“ the latest film by Joachim Trier, a Cannes Grand Prix winner. The movie is set in Oslo and features a cast including Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning.

Way Out West is not just a music festival but a platform for ecology, social responsibility, and cultural change.
From the beginning, it has focused on sustainability—adopting vegetarian cuisine that has reduced emissions by 40%—and promoting inclusivity, equality, and recycling.
This year, tickets sold out faster than ever, and the organizers launched a campaign offering attendees the chance to win a pass by registering in the National Organ Donor Register, demonstrating a commitment to helping others. The Kidney Pass campaign creatively combines pop culture and public health, reminding us that solidarity can be more than just words—it can be a concrete action.
