Collage as Literature

Can collage be literature? So, collages might not fit the traditional definition of literature, but they can certainly be a form of visual storytelling, a form of literary expression in a broader, more contemporary sense because today the boundaries between visual art and literature are blurred.

During my artist residency in Sweden, I was writing while creating collages using found materials like paper bags from Swedish supermarkets (Willys and Hemköp), old newspapers, brochures, and advertising materials, making my work a form of sustainable recycling.

My goal was to contrast traditional writing and storytelling by creating an art book that combines visual and literary elements. Through this project, I’m questioning what contemporary literature is and challenging the conventional roles of writers and readers, as well as writing and reading.
