Way Out West Film is the third-largest film festival in Sweden.  A total of 31 feature films will be shown during the festival’s three days. Among these, 18 are premieres: six world premieres, nine Nordic premieres, and three Swedish premieres at Hagabion, Capitol, and the new venue Slottskogen Cinema. Another new feature is late-night screenings of new horror movies at Capitol: Äkta skräck by Daniel di Grado and VIRGO by Jakob Ekvall (on Friday and Saturday evenings, respectively).

WOW Films 2024 presents the Swedish premiere of The Substance – Demi Moore’s highly anticipated comeback in a body horror that was one of the most talked about films at Cannes this year, winning Best Screenplay and a nomination for Palme d’Or – and the world premiere of the directing debut of Grammis nominated artist El Perro Del Mar: Big Anonymous, alongside new documentaries about Wu-Tang legend Old Dirty Bastard, the controversial artist Peaches, Scottish indie band Mogwai, multitalented artist Mwuana and the skate documentaries CLICK CLICK and A mobile community.

Among the over 30 films are the Swedish premiere of Loran Batti’s new documentary G – 21 scener från Gottsunda, which shows the effects of the escalating gang violence, and the Nordic premiere of the dramedy Kneecap which was recently selected as the Irish submission for the Oscars, following the members of the band playing fictive versions of themselves. Another contemporary theme is portrayed in Dahomey, the Golden Bear winner which shows artifacts from the historical kingdom Dahomey being returned from France to Benin.

WOW Films also presents an exclusive preview of the new documentary Pontus – succéerna och Brilloskandalen, about Pontus Hultén, the celebrated director of Moderna Museet who after his death was accused of one of the biggest global art frauds in modern times, involving fake Warhol Brillo boxes.
