Rock en Seine: How music festival can promote social responsibility

Art Box portal //

More than just a celebration of sound, Rock en Seine has become a powerful example of how music festivals can embrace and promote social responsibility. By championing local talent, engaging in year-round community outreach, and addressing key issues such as public health, gender equality, and sustainability, the festival sets a high standard for cultural events in France and beyond. As the 2025 edition approaches, Rock en Seine continues to expand its efforts to create a safer, more inclusive, and more conscious festival experience for all.

Rock en Seine has long demonstrated that it is more than just a music festival – it is also an active participant in socially responsible initiatives. Through support for the local scene (the Première Seine project), employing over 1,000 people annually, and opening its doors to associations and foundations dedicated to the common good, the festival actively contributes to the development of the social and solidarity economy. This commitment continues throughout the year, with the goal of leaving a positive and lasting impact on the community.

GENERAL PREVENTION

Generali France has become a festival partner and will provide a dedicated space for fun, educational, and inspiring activities that raise awareness about various forms of prevention. All visitors will have the opportunity to get informed, relax, and take part in workshops covering topics such as hearing protection, sexual health, the fight against sexual and gender-based violence, road safety, prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, and climate-related risks. Four Generali houses will be available to visitors, with all activities aligned with the values of safety, sustainability, and community care.

PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AND HARASSMENT (VHSS)

Rock en Seine implements a comprehensive prevention and support program to combat sexual and gender-based violence and harassment. In collaboration with organizations and experts, the festival hosts information booths, awareness campaigns, as well as video clips and posters displayed throughout the festival grounds. In 2025, the awareness survey on consent, developed with Consentis and Médiamétrie, will be continued. This survey, completed during accreditation, aims to educate over 4,000 people – including performers, partners, and staff. All team members undergo consent training, and everyone involved receives a charter outlining the festival’s core values and expectations.

HEARING PROTECTION

In addition to informative posts on digital channels, the festival also provides concrete measures for hearing protection: free earplugs distributed in a dedicated area in collaboration with Generali, and the option to purchase hearing protection on-site.

ROAD SAFETY AND ADDICTION PREVENTION

Organizations focused on road safety and risks associated with alcohol and drug use are also present at the festival, offering engaging and educational content. CRIPS provides additional activities related to the prevention of risky sexual behavior, while a team of specialists from the Centre Hospitalier des 4 Villes in Saint-Cloud, who focus on addiction treatment, are available to inform visitors about associated risks and offer assistance to those in need.

GENDER EQUALITY

Rock en Seine advocates for greater representation of women artists – both among emerging talents and headliners. As in previous years, a women-only performance night will be held on August 20, 2025. The festival also strives to include women and members of minority communities in juries, talent selection committees, and as speakers during the Talks sessions.

SUSTAINABLE AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The festival offers discounted ticket prices for young people, students, the unemployed, and persons with disabilities, ensuring accessibility for all. At the same time, around 1,000 people are employed during the three-day event, with a particular emphasis on working with companies from the Paris region. Festival partners support key initiatives in the areas of accessibility, youth engagement, sustainable mobility, and risk prevention.

MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT

Rock en Seine is proof that a music festival can be much more than entertainment — it can be a catalyst for positive change. From hearing protection and gender equality to addiction awareness and climate action, the festival’s multifaceted approach reflects a deep commitment to the well-being of both its audience and the wider community. As thousands gather once again in 2025, they will not only come for the music but also to take part in a collective movement that values respect, solidarity, and a sustainable future.

This year, Rock en Seine will take place in Paris from August 20 to 24. For ticket information and the full lineup, visit the festival’s official website.
