The Way Out West festival will take place in Slottsskogen and around central Gothenburg between August 8-10 2024. Since its establishment in 2007, the music and film festival Way Out West has attracted visitors from all over Sweden and large parts of the rest of the world.

Programme

The programme includes a lineup of Swedish and internationally acclaimed stars, such as Fred Again.., Jack White, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Icona Pop, The National, and Susanne Sundfør. It also offers film premieres, great vegetarian food, and a robust club programme called “Stay Out West”.

What is Stay Out West?

Stay Out West is Way Out West club program (age limit 18+) that opens up in different areas/clubs around Gothenburg when the festival area in Slottsskogen closes.

About Way Out West

Since Way Out West started in 2007, the festival has been blessed with stars such as Prince, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine, Neil Young, M.I.A., Alicia Keys, Stormzy, Frank Ocean, Robyn, The xx, Patti Smith, Solange and The Cure, just to name a few.

Umbrellas

Umbrellas are not allowed at the festival. Unfolded umbrellas obstruct the vision of those behind you in the crowd, so please bring rainwear instead.

Bag ban Policy

Sustainability / Veggie since 2012

Sustainability is a keyword for Way Out West and has been since our start in 2007. Way Out West is a vegetarian festival – which applies to all visitors, workers,, and artists. During the 2019 year’s festival, the carbon footprint from an average meal was 0,38 kg CO2e, which is below WWF’s One Planet Plate recommendation of 0,5 kg CO2e.

Social sustainability

Way Out West doesn’t tolerate any form of discrimination at the festival. Gender equality is a priority for Way Out West.

Since 2017, Way Out West has worked closely together with West Pride in order to stand up for human rights and join forces for a more inclusive society, free from prejudice and discrimination – starting with an LGBT certifying of the festival.

In cooperation with the anti-drug initiative Let’s Hear it from the Crowd and other concert and festival organisers, Way Out West take all the necessary steps to prevent people from being in touch with narcotics at live music events.

In the project Dare to Care Way Out West work closely with RFSU and Svensk Live to create a safe environment without sexual harassment and assault within the live music world – and society at large. People come to Way Out West to relax and have fun, no one should ever be afraid.
