This summer, at the Domaine national de Saint‑Cloud just outside Paris, Rock en Seine reaffirmed its commitment to creating a secure environment for all attendees. Special emphasis was placed on combating sexual and gender-based violence through the introduction and enhancement of the Safe Zone—a dedicated area for anyone experiencing or witnessing any form of mistreatment during the festival.

The Safe Zone, clearly marked and conveniently located near the festival entrance, was established in partnership with feminist organizations #NousToutes and Elle’s Imagine’nt. Here, visitors can access emotional and practical support in a confidential setting, facilitated by trained professionals and volunteers. What sets this initiative apart is the proactive approach: volunteers don’t wait for someone to seek help—they roam throughout the festival, engage with attendees, and offer assistance even to those who might not think to ask. This practice, known as “maraude,” is especially vital in large and often intense festival environments.

Support extends beyond physical spaces—it also plays out across the festival’s communication channels. Messages promoting violence prevention, Safe Zone information, and mutual respect are prominently displayed on screens, posters, promotional materials, and official digital platforms.

The festival has adopted a code of conduct, developed in collaboration with the organization Consentis…, developed in collaboration with Consentis, distributed to everyone involved—from technical staff and volunteers to artists. The charter promotes principles of consent, respect, inclusion, and zero tolerance toward discrimination and harassment. Festival personnel undergo specialized training to help them recognize and respond appropriately to situations that may be inappropriate or harmful.

Moreover, support doesn’t end when the festival gates close. Anyone who experienced or witnessed violence can still contact organizers afterward via a dedicated email address, and partner organizations are available to offer long-term psychosocial support.

It’s also noteworthy that Rock en Seine earned the “Act Right” certification in 2023, affirming its commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence and its broader responsibility toward social, inclusive, and environmental stewardship. These initiatives form part of the festival’s comprehensive safety strategy, which includes robust infrastructure, on-site medical services, controlled access, and clearly defined ethical standards.

Thanks to these measures, Rock en Seine stands out not only as a celebration of music and community but as a festival where every attendee can feel safe, respected, and embraced.
