Alexander Payne’s ‘The Holdovers’ is this years candidate for the Oscar in several categories, including: best picture, best actor, best actress, original screenplay.
In this film, written by David Hemingson, a modest teacher at a prestigious American school is forced to stay on campus during the Christmas break and take care of several students who have nowhere to go for the holiday. Over time, he develops an unexpected bond with one of them, an emotionally damaged, smart, troubled student but also a school cook who lost her son in Vietnam.
The cast in Payne“s film, which has already been described as ‘a charming, delicately written and sensitively acted comedy’, includes: Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Carrie Preston, Brady Hepner, Ian Dolley, Jim Kaplan, Andrew Garman, Michael Provost, Gillian Wigman and others.
